A frutose 1,6-bisfosfato , também conhecido como éster Harden-Young , é o açúcar da frutose fosforilado nos carbonos 1 e 6 (ou seja, é um frutosefosfato ). A forma β- D deste composto é comum nas células . Ao entrar na célula, a maior parte da glicose e da frutose é convertida em frutose 1,6-bifosfato.

Em glicólise

A frutose 1,6-bifosfato encontra-se na via metabólica da glicólise e é produzida pela fosforilação da frutose 6-fosfato . Por sua vez, é dividido em dois compostos: gliceraldeído 3-fosfato e fosfato de dihidroxiacetona . É um ativador alostérico da piruvato quinase por meio de interações distintas de ligação e alosteria no sítio catalítico da enzima

Isomeria

A frutose 1,6-bifosfato tem apenas um isômero biologicamente ativo , a forma β- D . Existem muitos outros isômeros, análogos aos da frutose.

Quelação de ferro

A frutose 1,6-bis (fosfato) também tem sido implicada na capacidade de se ligar e sequestrar o Fe (II), uma forma solúvel de ferro cuja oxidação ao Fe (III) insolúvel é capaz de gerar espécies reativas de oxigênio via química de Fenton . A capacidade da frutose 1,6-bis (fosfato) de se ligar ao Fe (II) pode impedir essas transferências de elétrons e, assim, agir como um antioxidante dentro do corpo. Certas doenças neurodegenerativas, como Alzheimer e Parkinson , têm sido associadas a depósitos de metal com alto teor de ferro, embora seja incerto se a química de Fenton desempenha um papel substancial nessas doenças, ou se a frutose 1,6-bis (fosfato) é capaz de mitigar esses efeitos.
