A Casa de Rohan ( bretão : Roc'han ) é uma família bretã de viscondes , mais tarde duques e príncipes da nobreza francesa , vindos da localidade de Rohan na Bretanha . Sua linhagem descende dos viscondes de Porhoët e dizem que remonta ao lendário Conan Meriadoc . Através do Porhoët, os Rohan são relacionados aos Duques da Bretanha , com quem a família se misturou novamente após o seu início. Durante a Idade Média , foi uma das famílias mais poderosas do Ducado da Bretanha . Após seu casamento (1645) com Marguerite de Rohan, filha única de Henri II de Rohan , primeiro duque de Rohan (que morreu em 1638 sem herdeiro masculino), Henri Chabot , um descendente do ramo mais velho da Casa de Chabot , de Poitou foi feito duque de Rohan em 1648 e teve permissão para usar o nome Rohan-Chabot em vez do seu próprio, dando origem à Casa de Rohan-Chabot .

Origens

A família de Rohan afirmava ser descendente dos primeiros reis da Bretanha e até do lendário rei Conan Meriadoc .

Os Rohans eram descendentes dos Viscondes de Porhoët . De acordo com J.-P. Soubigou, o primeiro visconde conhecido, Guethenoc (fl. 1028), provavelmente também era visconde de Rennes e estava ligado à nobreza da região do Loire, mas poderia ter pertencido a uma linhagem bretã com propriedades em torno de Josselin , onde construiu um castelo .

O filho de Guethenoc, Josselin I († 1074), participou da Batalha de Hastings e da conquista da Inglaterra por Guilherme, o Conquistador . Ele recebeu terras em Bedfordshire , Buckinghamshire e Gloucestershire , e na cidade de Caerwent . Ele era o pai de Mainguy, bispo de Vannes, e Odo I, visconde de Porhoët , Rohan e Guéméné († após 1092), que se casou com Anne de Léon e teve vários filhos: Geoffrey, que herdou o visconde de Porhoët, e Alain I o Negro (1084-1147), Visconde de Rohan e Castelnoec (fl. 1127), que construiu o castelo de Rohan e foi o primeiro membro da Casa de Rohan.

História

As propriedades dos Rohans no século 15

Do século 12 ao século 15, os Rohans continuaram assegurando e aumentando suas propriedades por meio de casamentos, aquisições, heranças, legados e trocas. Assim, eles se tornaram rivais dos duques da Bretanha durante toda a Idade Média, de acordo com seus interesses, às vezes executando fielmente as cargas mais importantes do Ducado, às vezes rebelando-se, como fez João II de Rohan nos últimos anos da independência da Bretanha. O "grande visconde", então mais poderoso do que nunca, controlava quase 200.000 bretões em cerca de um quinto do território bretão. O coração do viscondado de Rohan é formado pelo triângulo rohannais (as três grandes fortalezas de La Chèze, Josselin e Pontivy) cujo centro é a aldeia de Rohan , feudo nominal da família cujo castelo foi abandonado em favor dos outros três.

A família Rohan casou-se várias vezes com membros da família ducal bretã , a última vez em 1407.

Henrique II de Rohan escolheu Pontivy como capital de seu feudo. O chefe do partido protestante durante Marie de Médici regência s’ Louis XIII reinado‘s, ele foi um dos maiores capitães de seu tempo.

Pedro II de Rohan-Gié († 1525) casou-se em 1517 com Ana de Rohan (1485-1529), herdeira do ramo mais velho e, por meio desse casamento, tornou-se Visconde de Rohan, Senhor de Léon e Conde de Porhoët. Seu filho, René de Rohan-Gié (1516-1552) casou-se em 1534 com Isabeau de Albret, também conhecida como Isabeau de Navarre (1512-1570) e foi pai de René II , Visconde de Rohan e Senhor de Léon († 1586) chefe de o partido protestante na França.

Este ramo foi extinto em 1638 com Henrique II de Rohan como primeiro duque de Rohan (1603), que se casou com Marguerite de Béthune (1595-1660), filha de Maximilien I de Béthune-Sully (1559-1641).
