Jon C. Teaford é professor emérito do Departamento de História da Purdue University . Ele se especializou em história urbana americana e no início de sua carreira se especializou em história do direito .
Teaford começou a se interessar por história ainda jovem, devido ao seu fascínio pelo presidente Theodore Roosevelt . Ele recebeu seu PhD da University of Wisconsin em 1973; sua dissertação, A Revolução Municipal na América: Origens do Governo Urbano Moderno, 1650–1825 , também foi publicada como um livro em 1975.
