Vida pregressa
Flanders nasceu de pais judeus em Londres , Inglaterra . Ela passou sua infância em Montreal , Canadá, além de um ano em Israel em 1972. Ela se mudou para a Grã-Bretanha após a universidade e trabalhou como editora para várias editoras de Londres.
Suas experiências foram satirizadas em um romance policial, Writers 'Block (2014), renomeado A Murder of Magpies (2015).
