Sorry, I'm getting confused. Where is this supposed to link to? And what is it supposed to refer to?

I'm just going to undo my moves, because they didn't make anything better, but it still will need some unsnarling. --Uncle Ed 14:14, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The name of this template[edit]

It looks like this stub template has been moved without proper discussion. I'd just like to inform everybody using it, that the correct procedure for creating, deleting or moving stub templates is by reporting the problem to WP:WSS, and suggest what should be done with the template. Stub sorters will then debate the issue and try to find a solution. This system is used for two reasons: 1) We try to maintain a system which is as easy to use as possible for the average editor. That's why we like to stick to a consistent "easy-to-guess" system. 2) Edits to stub templates can seriously hurt the servers' performance - and they're bad enough already - so please propose any changes to WP:WSS next time. Use WP:WSS/P for new templates, and WP:SFD for deletions or renames. Regards. Valentinian (talk) 17:11, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved it back and an nominating the palestinian-stub redirect for deletion. All stub templates relating to places are of the form Placename-stub. There is no such place as "Palestinian". Say "Palestinian" to most people and they will think of the people, not the place, and this isn't a bio-stub. "Palestinian Authority" will similarly make people think of the place's government. The place is commonly known as Palestine, so unless you want to go with the full mane of WestBankandGaza-stub, Palestine-stub is the obvious name. As to whether it applies to current or ancient Palestine, that hasn't been a problem with any of the other place-specific stubs for places which have changed their borders (like Ghana, Austria, Poland, Bolivia...most countries in fact), so it shouldn't be a problem here, either. This page is protected from moving - please do not move stub templates without first debating such moves. Arguing about the wording of the template is fine, but not moving it. As it is, the current name was debated and this name was decided upon as being the most suitable for it. Stub templates use the form Noun-stub, so Palestinian-stub sounds like it would be for stubs about specific Palestinians (i.e., biography stubs). This is not the case. You are thoroughly mistaken. The place is not known as Palestine to anyone since that place doesn't exist. Palestine as a region does exist but it contains also Israel and possibly Jordan and possibly also portions of Egypt and Syria. It doesn't contain something to do with the Palestinian flag and the articles in question. So the stub should be Palestinian Authority or West bank and Gaza, simply because saying Palestine is both very wrong and extreme WP:POV pushing. Thank you. Then it's extreme POV pushing by both Palestinians and Israelis, many of whom were consulted before this template was named in the first place. As to the place being "not known as Palestine to anyone", I suggest you take that up with the millions of peope worldwide who do call it that. And, since the stub is intended to cover items relating to both the modern Palestinian Authority areas and historical items relating to Palestine as it existed prior to the creation of the modern state of Israel, to call it anything else would be grossly misleading. Template text[edit]

The current scoping text of this template is "This Palestinian-related article is a stub." That makes it sound like a bio-stub, and what's more, like an "ethnic" bio-stub, which we've traditionally tried to avoid like the plague. That the category page says <nowiki>Palestine (Palestinian Authority)</state> (!) hardly clarifies matters. I'd have thought that a more obvious scope was Palestinian territories -- or whatever other term one wishes to apply to that region, and however one defines it.
