Sindicato dos trabalhadores ferroviários do Reino Unido
National Union of Railwaymen era um sindicato de trabalhadores ferroviários no Reino Unido . Maior sindicato dos ferroviários do país, teve grande influência no movimento sindical nacional.
História O NUR foi um sindicato industrial fundado em 1913 pela fusão da Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants (fundada em 1872), da United Pointsmen and Signalmen's Society (fundada em 1880) e do General Railway Workers 'Union (fundada em 1889).
O NUR representava a maioria dos ferroviários, mas não os trabalhadores de colarinho branco, que eram membros da Associação dos Funcionários Ferroviários (fundada em 1897, posteriormente Associação dos Funcionários Assalariados dos Transportes ). A filiação ao NUR estava aberta a motoristas e bombeiros, mas a maioria escolheu ser membro da Sociedade Associada de Engenheiros de Locomotivas e Bombeiros (fundada em 1880).
Em 1914, o NUR juntou forças com a Federação Nacional dos Trabalhadores em Transporte e a Federação de Mineração da Grã-Bretanha para formar a Tríplice Aliança - talvez um nome infeliz, pois no mesmo ano a Tríplice Entente da Grã-Bretanha , França e Rússia e a Tríplice Aliança da Alemanha , e a Áustria-Hungria (embora sem a Itália ) foi para a guerra.
Em 1919, o NUR e a ASLEF organizaram em conjunto a greve ferroviária de 1919 no Reino Unido , que impediu uma redução salarial proposta e ganhou uma jornada de trabalho máxima de oito horas. O NUR formou acordos de federação com a ASLEF em 1903 e 1982, mas ambos foram de curta duração.
O NUR tinha 408.900 membros em 1945, tornando-se o quinto maior sindicato da Grã-Bretanha. Seu número de membros caiu para 369.400 em 1956 e 227.800 em 1966.
Após a formação da British Rail , a maioria dos membros do NUR trabalhou para a organização nacionalizada. No entanto, outros membros trabalharam para a London Transport , a National Freight Corporation e várias empresas menores. Também recrutou trabalhadores da British Rail em indústrias associadas, como hotéis, docas e portos, e nas balsas Sealink .
Em 1990, o NUR fundiu-se com o Sindicato Nacional dos Marinheiros para formar o Sindicato Nacional dos Trabalhadores em Transporte Ferroviário, Marítimo e de Transportes (RMT) e deixou de existir como um sindicato separado.
Resultados eleitorais O sindicato patrocinou vários candidatos parlamentares do Partido Trabalhista , muitos dos quais venceram as eleições.
